Prayer for Official Launch

Below is the corporate element from Sunday’s service. Our hope is that this can guide our prayers as we prepare for the Official Launch in September.

In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. For what we proclaim is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, with ourselves as your servants for Jesus’ sake. For God, who said, “Let light shine out of the darkness”, has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
2 Corinthians 4:4-6

[Pray that God would shine the light of the gospel among the people of Little Rock, and pray that we would be faithful servants in this work – proclaiming not ourselves, but Christ.]

At the same time, pray also for us, that God may open to us a door for the word, to declare the mystery of Christ, on account of which I am in prison – that I may make it clear, which is how I ought to speak.
Colossians 4:3-4

[Pray that God would open doors for us to speak the gospel, and pray that we would proclaim the gospel clearly in those opportunities.]

And it is my prayer that your love may abound more and more, with knowledge and all discernment, so that you may approve what is excellent, and so be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.
Philippians 1:9-11

[Pray that God would be at work in our church body, uniting us together in love. Pray that the fruit of the Spirit would be abundantly evident among us, so that our lives together would commend the gospel.]

“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.
Matthew 28:19-20

[Pray that God would give us a heart to make disciples of all nations, both here in Little Rock and around the world. Pray that we would be encouraged by Jesus’ promise to be with us in this work.]

Update and Prayer – July 18

It has been a busy summer for our church plant! We are thankful to God for all the ways that he has been at work in our midst. We are consistently reminded of how good, kind, and gracious God is to us! We have much to be thankful for. Here are just a few ways we have seen his kindness to us:

  • One new family has been faithfully attending our Core Group meetings. And one other person has been attending and has expressed an interest to continue doing so!
  • The ABSC is planning to help us with funding, at a level that exceeds our expectations!
  • Possible open door for us to meet for worship at a Midtown-area private school (continue to pray for this)!
  • Relatively smooth transition for the Reissigs, including the Lord’s provision at work in Daniel’s job!
  • Opportunity to meet and get to know some local area pastors

We’re continuing to meet with our Core Group every other Thursday night. Our meetings have been a joy, with a true sense of worship and fellowship. Daniel and I have been teaching through the foundational ideas for the church plant, and we’ll continue to do so through the month of August. We are hoping to begin meeting on Sunday mornings in September. Not everything will be in place for a full-scale launch, but we are excited nonetheless about worshipping together with the people the Lord has brought to our group. Would you join us in praying for that transition as it approaches?

Our long-term plan at this point is to continue these informal gatherings on Sunday morning until some point early next year. At that point, we hope to re-evaluate and plan for an official launch to Midtown Baptist Church! There is so much that needs to happen before that point. So, would you continue to pray with us about those long-term needs (wisdom, faithfulness in the present, funding, “permanent” place to meet, additional team members, etc.)?

Here are some other prayer requests. We appreciate so much your prayers and support!

  • Meeting space for Sunday morning gatherings
  • 1 to 3 more families added to our Core Group
  • Continued favor with the Arkansas Baptist State Convention and other local churches
  • Open doors for the gospel with our neighbors and co-workers
  • Time management (school starts back in August, teaching load in the church plant increases to every week in September)
  • Faithfulness on our part to be shepherding our own hearts and families
  • Faithfulness to the Word of God, even in these early days
Thank you again for your prayers. We’ll keep you up to date as the Lord continues to work here in Little Rock.
Soli Deo Gloria
Jeff (for the Midtown family)

Update and Prayer – June 13th

Last week was our first Core Group meeting! It was an exciting time for us as a church plant. We had the opportunity to gather together (in my living room!) to sing God’s praises, read God’s Word, pray together, and listen to some teaching from 1 Peter 2. All in all, it was an encouraging time. Thank you for your prayers regarding our meeting. We’ll continue meeting together every other week throughout the summer, with the next meeting on June 23rd. Please continue to pray for us on that front. And by all means, if you are interested in the plant, think about joining us for one of our meetings!

We had one new family attend our June 9th meeting, and they are planning to come back on the 23rd. If you remember, we are asking the Lord to add 2-4 families to our Core Group by the end of the summer. So, maybe the Lord is beginning to answer our prayers! Please continue to pray that the Lord would add to our group as he sees fit. And please pray that we would trust him and be faithful to build in to those who are already committed to this work.

Just in the last week, we have had two different families ask about giving financially to Midtown Baptist. This was unexpected and encouraging! With both Daniel and I working, we don’t have pressing needs for salary (at least for the time being). But we do have financial needs for a possible meeting location, website, and other practical matters. So, would you pray with us that God would provide financially for Midtown Baptist? And pray that we would be good stewards of the funding that we are already receiving.

Here are other various prayer requests:

  • Pray that the Lord would open doors for us to speak the gospel, and that we would be bold and courageous to speak (Col. 4:3-6).
  • Pray that the Lord would continue to show us favor in the State Convention sponsorship process. We are currently in the process of filling out the necessary application forms, which is longer than we expected!
  • Pray for our Core Group meeting on June 23rd. Daniel will be teaching through key sections of Colossians in connection with ourMission statement.
  • Pray for our meeting July 8 concerning a potential building/meeting space.
  • Pray that we would continue to trust the Lord, walking by faith not by sight.

Thank you so much for your prayers and support! We are humbled by how many of you have expressed your support and encouragement! Thank you for that.

Soli Deo Gloria,

Jeff Breeding

Update and Prayer Requests (June 3)

Here is a quick update on the church plant, including some prayer requests!

Daniel and Courtney arrived in Little Rock a couple of weeks ago. Since their arrival, things have really begun to move forward. Daniel and I met with our contact at the state convention, we have an upcoming meeting about a building possibility, and our first Core Group meeting is next week. So much for an easy transition for the Reissigs!

This summer is a key time for the church plant. We’re asking that God would add 2-4 families to our Core Group by the end of this summer. Would you join us in also praying for that need? We would love to have 5-7 families committed to this work by the Fall. We are currently at 3 families (including ours), and we are excited to see who the Lord will bring across our path.

We’re also laying plans for a month of preview services this October. We’ll share more details about this opportunity as the time approaches, but until then there is much to do in order for that plan to become a reality. We need a meeting space, funding for web/graphic design work, and help for various logistical needs associated with a church service. Please pray with us that God would provide for these practical needs associated with our preview month in October.

While working and planning for the church plant, Daniel and I are also both working other jobs. We’re very thankful for the Lord’s provision in our work, and both of our jobs provide some much needed flexibility for ministry purposes. But being bi-vocational also eats up the little margin there is left in our busy schedules. Please pray that we would be faithful to lead our families well, caring for Courtney and Laura (and, in my case, Sam and Owen) as we should. We’re convinced that our leadership in the church is contingent on our leadership at home. Also, please pray that we would be faithful to care for our own souls. With meetings and deadlines and many other exciting opportunities, it can be easy to push our own soul-care to the side. Pray that we would not do this! Pray that we would be growing in godliness and wisdom, and that we would be vigilant against sin in our own lives.

Here are other various prayer requests:

  • Pray that the Lord would open doors for us to speak the gospel, and that we would be bold and courageous to speak (Col. 4:3-6).
  • Pray that the Lord would continue to show us favor in the State Convention sponsorship process.
  • Pray for our Core Group meetings, beginning June 9 and continuing every other week for the remainder of the summer. We’ll be teaching through the key components of the vision for MBC.
  • Pray for our meeting July 8 concerning a potential building/meeting space.
  • Pray that we would continue to trust the Lord, walking by faith not by sight.

Thank you so much for the various ways many of you are already supporting and encouraging us in this work! We are thankful to God for you! We look forward to keeping you up to date as the summer progresses.

For the Midtown family,

Jeff Breeding
